Volunteer

Volunteer with RIMRA
Support launches. Build rockets. Inspire students. Provide hands-on STEM experiences for students, veterans, and the community.

RIMRA is powered entirely by volunteers. From field setup and breakdown to membership support, concessions, fire-watch, range operations, and STEM outreach, volunteers help make our launches and community programs possible.

Whether you are a member, flyer, parent, veteran, educator, or community supporter, we would love to have you involved.

RIMRA Launch Volunteer Needs:

This is one of the most important volunteer roles at every launch.

  • Unload and load equipment
  • Set up tables and range gear
  • Help organize the field before launches
  • Pack up at the end of the day

Note: Volunteers should be comfortable lifting equipment, sometimes up to about 50 lbs.

Membership Table

  • Welcome attendees
  • Assist with membership forms and dues
  • Answer basic questions
  • Direct participants and visitors

Food & Concessions

Need: 1–2 volunteers per launch

RIMRA often offers hot dogs, grilled cheese, water, soda, and chips during launches.

  • Grill operation
  • Food prep
  • Serving
  • Handling payments

Payments accepted: Cash, Venmo, and PayPal

Fire Watch

Need: 1–2 volunteers per launch

This is a safety-support role during launches. Volunteers help monitor the field for signs of fire and respond to small fires with available equipment when needed.

Range & Safety Support

Need: 1–2 volunteers per launch

  • Range Safety Officer (RSO)
  • Safety check-in support
  • Launch Control Officer (LCO) support
  • Pad operations / range support

Some of these roles require experience, certification, or mentored training.

STEM Outreach & Community Events

RIMRA supports school STEM events, 4-H programs, Civil Air Patrol activities,
veterans rocket building workshops, and other community outreach programs.

Volunteers may help participants build model rocket kits, assist with materials,
answer questions, and support a safe and welcoming environment.

Important: School-based events may require a criminal background investigation.

Flexible Volunteer Coverage

Some roles only require one volunteer, but having more than one person allows rotation so a member can volunteer and still enjoy the event, including launching their own rockets when appropriate.
